The UK Drug Rationing Authority (UKDRA), led by North American and international pharmaceutical company Pfizer, has released a new guidance on drug safety for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED). The UK's DGIO is continuing to update UK Drug Rationing Authorities on new guidance and will update UKDRA with new guidance.
The new guidance, published on 29 November 2021, details a review of the safety and efficacy of sildenafil (Viagra®) in the treatment of ED. It will advise UKDRA and its partner agencies on the most appropriate use of sildenafil in this context.
The review has been updated with guidance on the clinical application of sildenafil in the treatment of ED. It is the latest update to UKDRA's updated guidance for the treatment of ED and the latest update to the UK Drug Rationing Authority's guidance on the safe, effective and cost-effective treatment of ED. The guidance is part of a larger review on sildenafil use.
The review found that sildenafil had little effect on the clinical response and safety of other PDE5 inhibitors (such as Viagra® and Cialis®) in the treatment of ED, and had no significant effect on the efficacy of sildenafil. It also indicated that sildenafil and similar PDE5 inhibitors had little effect on the clinical response and safety of sildenafil, with no significant effect on the efficacy of sildenafil.
Further information on the guidance is available on Pfizer's website.

HPT (hormonal therapy for male impotence) was initially developed and marketed as an anti-androgen in the early 1960s. It has since gained a reputation for its effectiveness and safety in treating male sexual dysfunction (androgenetic alopecia), a common medical condition affecting up to 40% of men in the general population. It is used to help men overcome the challenges of erectile dysfunction by increasing blood flow to the penis, which helps achieve and maintain an erection. Hormonal therapy works by inhibiting the body's production of gonadotropins, which are responsible for the differentiation of the male reproductive organs. These hormones are important for normal male function, including erections and sexual intercourse. Hormonal therapy aims to restore the balance of hormones in the body, leading to an erection. One of the key features of HPT is that it can be performed in both the external male and the internal male areas of the body, allowing for precise dosing and a tailored treatment plan.
